Our Heritage Project

A lady came to our school. She asked us to bring in our items,  old items of interest, and could she possibly see them? We brought our  antiques'.
Ethan Morrow brought in and old Tilly lamp and a hot  water-bottle. It is made of China, pottery. The old lamp is extremely  big. It must have been used in a rich house for many Irish people could  not afford a big lamp like that. Ethan also brought in a horse shoe.  Many people would think it would bring luck into the house!
Dylan  brought in an old Oil Lamp. It has lost some of it colour and it is very  rusty. It has got a handle but has no glass case. Dylan Morrow found it  in an old shed beside his house.
Amy and Jack Boyd brought in an  old stone made of flint and three watches. Amy brought in an old stone  axe and one stone axe head. It is so smooth! She also brought in and old  watch it had a key to wind it up. Jack her twin brought in two more old  watches.  He also brought in an old kettle that was used 200 years ago.  His nanny used the old Kettle.
Áine Boyle brought in a crook for the  kettle. She brought in a Branding Iron as well. It says JB on it too,  which is short for John Boyle.
Often when men were going to work men  often took a flask. If you were an explorer you would take a water  bottle for it would be hot. It has a straw covering to keep cold for in  the hot deserts it is extremely hot.
Shane brought in an old lamp which was used in boats. To light up the boat with it.

Theresa May brought in a
Horse-shoe  it had a horse's shoe on it too! Ugh! They hollowed the horse's foot  out and added a fake cap to make it look like a real horse.

Emily  brought in an old Iron. Many people had two irons. So while they were  ironing one thing, the other was warming up on the stove.

My brother, Patrick brought in a salt celler. Dad found it in a field whilst he was cutting the rushes.

Finally  and last of all is me. I brought in old money. It is bigger than the  average size. It looks like £100 money. (Sterling) Dad and Mum collect  old money.

Our Heritage Project

We are participating in a heritage project with the Woods School. We  come together a few times a year and in June we will create a history  booklet on special places of interest in Ardara. So far we have made a  pop up museum. We all had to bring in something very old. Then we looked  at the objects and discussed roughly how old we thought our objects  were.  Its good fun meting up with other schools. We also did a science  demonstration that day. By Jack Boyd and Patrick mc Girr
