HISTORY OF CRANNÓGBUÍ NATIONAL SCHOOL

The old school was built in 1864, one roomed with two teachers. This current building opened in 1944 with Master Byrne and Mrs. Gallagher the teachers.

Down through the years other teachers who have taught here were:
E Mulhern, Brendan Sheerin, Kitty Watters, Madge Whelan, Nora Quinn, Nancy Hegarty, Mrs. P. Moran, Mrs. R. Brennan and Tom O'Donnell who retired as Principal in June 2005. Currently Margaret McGirr and Marguerite Smith are the class teachers. Master Cannon is the learning support teacher and Mrs. Breslin is our rural coordinator. Miss Watters is our French teacher.

Crannogbois is the town-land in which the school is situated. There are the remains of a crannóg nearby but it is now dried up and surrounded by marsh.

The school was totally refurbished in 2007. A new classroom, office and storage room were built, while the entire insides were revamped. The two old classrooms were knocked into one large one for the senior classes and the junior classes use the new classroom. We love our new school. There is a lot of space to play and for science work too.
