History Trail 2015
We went on a  local History Trail with Conor Whyte.  First we saw the standing stone  at Owenea Bridge.  It was marked where to cross the river.   Next we  went to the Ring Fort; Ard 'a' Ratha means height of the fort.  It dates  back to the Bronze Age. After that we visited Woodhill House built in  the 1660s, Lord Nesbitt lived there, he was very good to the Ardara  people during the Famine.  In the 1900s it was converted to a hunting  lodge.   The garden is designed as a Celtic cross.   Our next stop was  the lime kiln.   It is 100 years old.   It was built to make materials  for the chapel. Then we went to Green Gate it was lovely.   Finally we  went to Kilterna graveyard to look at old graves.   I really enjoyed the  history trail. BY ÁINE  RANG A SÉ
